Armed off-duty cop said goal was to provoke students at ICE protest into assaulting him, report claims

A Phoenix police sergeant was placed on administrative leave after he attended a high school walkout against Immigration and Customs Enforcement in January with the express intent of provoking the minors into assaulting him in order to justify arresting them, according to a police report.

The police report, first reported on by FOX 10 Phoenix, notes that Dusten Mullen told officers with the Chandler Police Department that he was at the Hamilton High School protest in order to get a reaction out of the kids, who the officers could then arrest. “My plan is legitimately to just let them all assault me and you guys arrest them all and I’ll keep it on film,” Mullen said, according to the police report obtained by FOX 10.

Phoenix Police Chief Matthew Giordano later said that Mullen was suspended with pay while the department performs an internal review into his conduct at the student protest on January 30. The Phoenix Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Mirror US…
