Noises from a Florida A&M University robotics competition on Thursday were temporarily mistaken for the sounds of gunfire, leading area law enforcement to swarm the school and institute a lockdown.
The Tallahassee Police Department said it received calls around noon on Thursday reporting the sounds of gunfire and the sight of a person with an open-carry weapon near Lake Bradford Road. Police later said they did not find anyone matching the caller’s description.
The university lifted its shelter-in-place order to campus staff and students around 30 minutes after issuing it, giving an all-clear notice and advising those on campus to “return to normal operations.” The TPD said law enforcement officers would remain in the area and continue to monitor the situation…
