Tigers win second battle over Grizzlies, war continues Friday

The war for supremacy in the Pacific Conference saw one of its most important battles on a blustery afternoon Wednesday in Yamhill County when the Tigers of Newberg took on the Grizzlies of McMinnville.

The Tigers were seeking to avenge a 7-5 loss to the Grizzlies two days prior in Newberg, while McMinnville was hoping to hold on to the No. 1 state ranking it received after downing Newberg. The loss relegated the Tigers to a No. 7 ranking, but only for a short while.

It was the Tigers who came out on top 13-9 on Wednesday as the foes traded blows throughout the game. With the win the Tigers ascended to 4-1 in the conference (11-1 overall) and a No. 5 ranking by the OSAA as of April 16. The loss dropped the Grizzlies to 1-1 in conference play, 7-4 overall and sixth in the OSAA rankings…
