Grand Rapids plans to borrow $35M for new firefighter training center

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids is planning to borrow up to $35 million to help finance a new firefighter training facility that’s under construction on the city’s northwest side.

On Tuesday, the Grand Rapids City Commission approved a notice of intent to issue capital improvement bonds to cover costs related to the design and construction of the new Grand Rapids Fire Department Training Center, 850 Pannell Road NW.

The notice of intent kicks off a 45-day referendum period in which the public has a chance to file a petition seeking to place the bond on the ballot for a public vote in an election, pursuant to state law…
