Small bear spotted in Ottawa County

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — A small bear has been spotted wandering around parts of Ottawa County.

Joel Matzke shared surveillance video from his home in Hudsonville that showed a bear ambling through his backyard around 6:30 a.m. Friday. Other people in the community have posted video clips of the bear to social media pages. Several of the sightings were near Baldwin Avenue and 42nd Avenue.

Shifting bear population could pose big problem for local farmers

Ottawa County Dispatchers confirm they have also received reports of bear sightings. Depuities explored the area near Schoolside Drive and Hidden Lake Drive Friday morning but did not come across the bear.

“The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that generally bears are not aggressive, but they can be unpredictable, especially if they feel threatened or are protecting food sources or cubs,” the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement…
