Drivers preparing for local drag races

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — In Far East El Paso, drivers are gathering for a pre-race meet-up at Desert Junkies Motorsports in anticipation of several local racing events.

“My family has over like 35 years in the racing scene. I grew up on this,” said Jose Najera, who is surrounded by twin Ford Broncos, each pushing more than 1,000 horses under the hood. “This is a 479 Bronco. My dad had it for probably like over 25 years already. It used to be a house for chickens, but he built it he made it into a race truck.”

Najera and several drivers are getting ready for a busy stretch in the weeks ahead, with several local races in the works, including a friendly matchup at La 42 Sand Drags in Clint on Sunday.
