Watch: Oklahoma principal tackles, disarms would-be school shooter

(NewsNation) — A principal in Oklahoma is being heralded as a hero after tackling a would-be school shooter to the ground and disarming him.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says the suspect is 20-year-old Victor Hawkins, a former student of Pauls Valley High School, NewsNation local affiliate KFOR in Oklahoma City reports. He is currently in jail, charged with two counts of pointing a firearm, one count of shooting with intent to kill and two counts of unlawful carry.

Investigators say the suspect walked through the front doors of his former high school, armed with a gun, right next to 35-year-old Principal Kirk Moore’s office. Shortly after entering, the suspect tried to shoot a student, but his gun jammed, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by KFOR.
