Precautions to take during severe weather threats

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – Ahead of Friday’s anticipated severe weather, Wyandotte County officials released some reminders during inclement storms.

Friday brings the most significant severe weather threat of the week. A First Warn Weather Day — our highest alert level — is in place as strong winds, large hail, tornadoes and heavy rain are all possible.

Here are a few tips the Unified Government shared to keep you and your family safe:

  • Go to NOAA Weather Radio and your local news or official social media accounts for updated emergency information. Follow the instructions of state, local and tribal officials.
  • Go to a safe shelter immediately, such as a safe room, basement, storm cellar or a small interior room on the lowest level of a sturdy building.
  • Stay away from windows, doors, and outside walls.
  • Do not go under an overpass or bridge. You’re safer in a low, flat location…
