A Metairie couple facing child cruelty charges suspected a 2-year-old boy was suffering from a drug overdose but waited more than five hours to seek help because they didn’t want to alert law enforcement or be arrested for the narcotics, according to authorities.
Kayla Bonilla, 27, and her boyfriend, Tyler Brady, 29, finally decided to drive her son to a nearby hospital after the toddler began turning blue, according to Jefferson Parish Assistant District Attorney Alicia Bennette.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested Bonilla and Brady Tuesday and booked them with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile. Both appeared Friday in Jefferson Parish Magistrate Court in Gretna for a bond hearing.
Bonilla and Brady were at home Tuesday morning at their Robertson Street apartment in Metairie when they noticed that Bonilla’s 2-year-old son had fallen ill. Brady is not the boy’s biological father…
