Parents push back on PPS plan to close neighborhood schools at packed listening session

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Next week, Portland Public Schools (PPS) will hear from families about its plan to close between five and 10 schools.

PPS has begun researching which schools to close starting in the 2027-28 school year. The district will select schools from K-8, middle and alternative schools.

Rebecca Roscoe has a second grader at Jason Lee Elementary School in Southeast Portland. The school’s enrollment has fallen below 300 students, and that worries her. She said she doesn’t know what would happen to her son’s education, and it is scary to think about Jason Lee closing…
