Report of bombs, armed person at Whittier HS was swatting hoax, police say

Whittier High School has been declared safe after a report of bombs and a person with a firearm prompted a lockdown on Friday.

Authorities said that at approximately 10:35 a.m., the Whittier Police Department and Whittier Union High School District both received phone calls from an unknown individual claiming that bombs and a person with a firearm were on the campus of Whittier High School.

The district placed the school, located at 12417 Philadelphia Street, on lockdown as a precaution, and Whittier PD responded to the scene.

Police confirmed the threats to be false after a thorough search of the campus, with the assistance of bomb-detecting K-9 officers and their handlers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
