Waupaca County says it has ‘a lot of support’ amid flooding; National Guard not requested

NEW LONDON (WLUK) — The Wisconsin National Guard has not been asked to help with sandbagging along the Wolf River, where record-high water levels are causing significant flooding in communities like Shiocton, New London, Weyauwega and Fremont.

Waupaca County Emergency Management Director Zac Van Asten said officials have not yet discussed bringing the guard in to help.

“We give them situational awareness updates,” Van Asten said. “The problem is, there’s active situations going on all over the state right now. There hasn’t been discussion on bringing them in at our level yet. Everyone’s been amazing. We’ve had a ton of support, just an absolute ton of support. We can’t speak enough to the local businesses throughout our communities. They have offered trucks, trailers, semis, equipment. The amount of resources we have is abundant, and we can’t be more thankful for that. So, we’re in a good position right now where we have a lot of support and a lot of help.”…
