ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Anchorage School District has released new numbers of positions which will be cut next school year now that voters appear to have rejected Proposition 9, a special property tax levy for the district which was projected to raise roughly $12 million.
District Superintendent Jharrett Bryantt noted the Anchorage School Board took into consideration the district’s $90 million deficit when it passed a balanced budget in March. But the district prepared two different scenarios for planning purposes.
“One scenario would have been what would have happened should the Proposition 9 not passed, and what would have happened if it were to pass,” Bryantt said. “So this reflects the planning that we’ve been doing if the proposition did not pass.”…
