Farmhouse destroyed in rural Winnebago Co., Rockton weathers severe storms

ROCKTON, Ill. (WIFR) – No injuries have been reported after severe storms swept through Rockton, according to the village’s fire chief.

Chief Kirk Wilson says around 4:15 p.m. April 17 a tornado warning was declared for Winnebago County. Sirens were triggered and the fire department reports it started receiving calls about downed power lines and trees. At that time, no major damage was found within village limits.

Crews were later called to the 4000 block of Freeport Road (IL Route 75), near Owen Center Road, where a two-story farmhouse had major structural damage, a total barn collapse as well as several downed power lines and trees. No injuries were reported.

During a second storm later in the evening, Rockton Fire says it helped Harlem-Roscoe Fire to help with storm damage in the area of Old River and Roscoe roads…
