Families displaced after apartment fire in Yonkers

A fire in Yonkers left multiple families without a place to live after flames tore through an apartment building on the corner of Yonkers Avenue and Walnut Street on Saturday morning.

Officials say the fire started just after 10 a.m. on the second floor and quickly spread, sending heavy smoke through the building. The Yonkers Fire Department responded within minutes and encountered flames coming from a second-floor window.

More than a dozen residents from six families were able to escape. One resident, Marcos, said he saw smoke in the kitchen and rushed to get everyone out safely…
