Bill that takes steps to save Crook Point Bascule Bridge passes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — The Rhode Island House and Senate have passed a bill to save the iconic Crook Point Bascule Bridge in Providence, potentially sparing the century-old structure from state demolition plans.

While the state has been looking to tear it down, neighbors on the East Side say they want the fixture to stay standing.

The Crook Point Bridge has seen better days. Margherita Pryor, of Providence, noted that in its current state, “it’s just kind of a hangout for people to throw trash.”…
