Grab those jackets: A winter-like blast will hit Central NY before warm weather returns by midweek

A strong cold front moving through Central New York early Sunday morning will bring scattered rain and snow showers throughout the day, with temperatures plummeting from recent mild conditions into the mid 40s before falling further this afternoon.

The National Weather Service reports that showers will continue through Sunday as colder air funnels into the region. Rain showers may mix with or change over to snow near or shortly after daybreak, especially in higher terrain areas of Central New York and the Tug Hill region.

Daytime heating, combined with atmospheric instability, could produce rumbles of thunder. Some showers may contain small hail or graupel.
