A quiet day today followed by more rain, storms

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Sunday dawned with sunshine and fair-weather clouds. The air was chilly and dry from the cold front that raced through Saturday morning. Lows were in the 40s at most reporting stations to several at 50°. Both Camp Mabry and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport recorded lows of 50°.

The last rain exited out of Fayette Co. between 4 and 4:30 a.m. Rain totals between Saturday and this morning were highest in an area from San Marcos to Bastrop to Giddings. The gauge at the San Marcos Municipal Airport recorded 1.10″. The gauge at Cedar Creek measured 0.95″.

Today’s forecast includes a blend of sun and clouds with afternoon temperatures peaking in the low to mid 70s. A few upper 60s are forecast in parts of the western Hill Country.

Wind gusts through the middle of the afternoon will generally average around 15 to 20+ mph.

Rain returns to the area after midnight with the majority of it moving across the Hill Country. Another trough of low pressure becomes the prominent weather feature tomorrow and Tuesday with significantly higher chances for showers and thunderstorms.

Any thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday, according to the Storm Prediction Center, should remain below severe criteria…
