PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — One of TriMet’s last Type 1 MAX trains got a public sendoff for its retirement on Saturday after nearly 40 years in service.
Guests were encouraged to write farewell messages on the train as it was parked next to Holladay Park on Northeast 11th Avenue in the afternoon.

For the past year, the retired Type 1 trains have been sent to recycling facilities to be disassembled and turned into building materials. There are only a handful of the original trains left.
Portland resident Jamar Summerfield told KOIN 6 News he probably rode the retired train “over 2,500 times at least.”…
