San Diego-based warship seizes Iranian cargo vessel in Strait of Hormuz

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A San Diego-based U.S. Navy warship is at the center of a high-stakes international confrontation after intercepting and seizing an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday.

The guided missile destroyer USS Spruance — which is homeported at Naval Base San Diego — carried out the operation as part of a U.S. military blockade targeting Iranian shipping routes, President Trump confirmed in Truth Social post.

The president said the USS Spruance intercepted a cargo ship identified as the Touska after it attempted to bypass the blockade near the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz.
