WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A Wichita police officer responding to an officer-in-trouble call ran a red light and caused a crash that injured five people late Saturday, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened shortly after 10 p.m. at East First Street North and North Hillside, KHP said. Investigators said the officer failed to safely clear the intersection and ran a red light, hitting a Hyundai driven by a 27-year-old woman from Pittsburg. The impact sent the officer’s vehicle rolling onto a sidewalk, and the Hyundai spun multiple times before stopping.
The officer, identified by KHP as 22-year-old Jayce Bennett, was taken to Wesley Medical Center with a suspected serious injury. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to KHP…
