SALEM Ore. (KPTV) – A northeast Salem church was asked to shelter in place and nearby streets were closed while bomb crews dealt with a “suspicious package” on Sunday morning, police said.
Just before 8:30 a.m., officers with Salem Police Department were sent to the area of Fourth Street Northeast and Channing Street Northeast after a community member called to report finding a package that looked suspicious.
When officers arrived, they closed off the area and asked the nearby Salem Evangelical Church to shelter in place. The church was having services at the time.
Using robots and other “specialized tools,” bomb technicians with Salem and Oregon State Police examined the package and determined it did not contain anything that could cause an explosion, police said…
