WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH/Gray News) – A mom in Kansas is accused of killing her child after claiming he choked on food, authorities said.
Shanna Kay Whitton was charged with one count of first-degree felony murder, one count of abuse of a child, one count of aggravated child endangerment and one count of aggravated arson in connection with the death of her son, Matthew Jon Whitton.
On Aug. 25, 2025, authorities from multiple agencies responded to an apartment complex after reports of an unconscious 15-month-old who had reportedly choked on food.
Matthew was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition. A few days later, he died from his injuries…
