Police, bomb squad investigate suspicious package found near Salem church

Salem Police are investigating after a suspicious package was found on the morning of April 19 in the 2500 block of Fourth Street NE and caused the nearby Salem Evangelical Church to shelter in place.

Officers responded to a report of a suspicious package in the area at 8:27 a.m., according to Salem Police. Police closed off access to the area and surrounding streets.

The Salem Police Bomb Squad was requested, police said. In collaboration with an Oregon State Police bomb technician, the bomb squad used special tools and equipment, including robots, to investigate the device…
