Unattended autistic boy strangled on blanket fashioned as cape, Mobile County DA says

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A 14-year-old autistic boy who died in October was strangled by a blanket fashioned as a cape, Mobile County’s top prosecutor said Monday.

Investigators previously said the boy died from a blanket while his mother was away. Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood on Monday offered some additional detail.

“It was strangulation from a blanket that the child had tied around his neck, wearing as a cape,” he said. “The child had autism, and that was sort of a comfort mechanism. But it was the long period of alleged neglect that led to a situation where the child accidentally strangled himself.”…
