2 arrested, 33 dogs saved after SLED uncovers alleged dogfighting case in Horry County

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — Thirty-three dogs were rescued by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division following an investigation into dogfighting in Horry County.

Facing the brunt of the charges is Prentice Shiobhan Jackson, 47. Jackson is accused of 33 counts of ill treatment of animals, 16 counts of animal fighting or baiting and criminal conspiracy. Also arrested was Rontisha Elena Huggins-Jackson, 48, who is charged with criminal conspiracy.

The charges stem from a search on April 15, where authorities allegedly uncovered the pit bull-type dogs with scarring “consistent with dogfighting injuries,” according to affidavits. The dogs found on the property were noticeably underweight, isolated from each other and with untreated medical conditions.”…
