I-10 Mobile River Bridge project faces delays, raising questions about $2.50 toll promise

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) – Drivers across Mobile and Baldwin County have heard the same promise for years: relief is coming. A new I-10 bridge and Bayway project, designed to ease congestion from one of the region’s busiest corridors, was once pitched as a long-awaited solution to traffic congestion.

Now, leaders in Baldwin County say they are running out of patience. Despite a federal grant secured two years ago, there is still no clear timeline, and the longer the delay, the more expensive the project could become.

Rising costs and growing concerns

After an Eastern Shore MPO meeting in Baldwin County, leaders are calling for clarification on where ALDOT is on the project, especially with increasing traffic spilling into other areas.

“More of a curiosity to know where we’re at. People ask me where we are and I can’t give them a good answer,” said Jack Burrell, Fairhope councilman. “Mayor Bass in Spanish Fort is definitely concerned with the increasing traffic. Every time the bridge backs up, people detour through Spanish Fort.”…
