Mobile Baykeeper pauses swim monitoring program amid funding shortfall

Mobile, Al — MOBILE, Ala. — Mobile Baykeeper has paused its Swim Where It’s Monitored, or SWIM, program due to a lack of dedicated funding, the organization announced, temporarily halting a service that provided water quality testing across coastal Alabama.

The program, which covered 20 sites in Mobile and Baldwin counties, collected water samples to test for bacteria such as Enterococcus and E. coli — indicators that can signal the presence of potentially harmful pathogens.
