PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — State Rep. David Morales on Monday joined supporters of rent stabilization days after Mayor Brett Smiley vetoed the measure, urging six members of the City Council to change their votes in order override the mayor’s veto.
Morales, Smiley’s Democratic primary challenger, has made rent stabilization a pillar of his campaign.
“During a time of need, where our neighbors are struggling and are being priced out of the city that they love, Mayor Brett Smiley went against the interests of our community as he took the side of corporate landlords, of big real estate, denying our neighbors the opportunity to have their rents capped at 4% a year, denying our neighbors the opportunity to continue calling Providence home,” Morales said outside Providence City Hall on Monday…
