Rockford officer guilty of domestic battery, previously cleared in shooting

ROCKFORD, Ill (WTVO) — A Rockford police officer has been found guilty of domestic battery, three years after he was cleared of a fatal shooting on Christmas Eve 2023.

Court records show Michael Rhein, 28, entered a negotiated plea on April 15 for charges stemming from a March 17 incident in which he attacked a woman and threatened her with a gun.

Rhein, who was searching through the victim’s phone, got into a physical altercation with her and shoved her against a wall, and then pulled out a gun, attempted to put it in her mouth and said, “Do you know what it is like to kill someone? I do, it is an adrenaline rush,” according to the charging documents…
