MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — At age 97, Mobile’s Horace T. “Bubba” Jackson can look back at his military service that began almost 80 years ago, when he served in post-World War II China and then fought in the Korean War.

“I have so many things to be proud of,” Jackson said, “and I thank God for them every day.”
Jackson attended Murphy High School in Mobile and then Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama. He graduated in 1946 and enlisted immediately in the U.S. Marine Corps.
“The war had ended,” Jackson recalled. “I didn’t have to go. I could have gone on to college, but I wanted to go, and they sent us to China right away.”
