Hays CISD board discussing new school buses/safety upgrades as crash driver up for parole

KYLE, Texas — Hays CISD leaders say they are shocked that Jerry Hernandez, the concrete pump truck driver serving an 18-year prison sentence for the 2024 school bus crash that killed two people, is already eligible for parole.

“This was an act of malice, and it was reckless. We felt like the crime deserves more punishment,” Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright said.
