Rif Hutton, known for his memorable role on General Hospital and a prolific career in voice acting, has passed away at 73. He died on April 18 at his Pasadena, California home after a 13-month battle with glioblastoma, a severe form of brain cancer.
Hutton was best known for portraying Lenny Caulfield, the warm-hearted owner of The Tan-O in Nixon Falls on General Hospital. Beyond the soap opera, he lent his voice to beloved animated films such as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon.
In a heartfelt tribute on April 20, actor Steve Apostolina, who worked closely with Hutton in the voice-over community, praised him as “one of a kind” and “a remarkable human being.” Apostolina highlighted Hutton’s qualities as a devoted father and husband, a witty and intelligent individual, and one of the hardest working people he ever knew. He recalled their collaboration spanning over 30 years and remembered Hutton as both a natural leader and a dependable team player on set.
“He was always prepared to deliver and one of the first to arrive,” Apostolina shared, emphasizing Hutton’s dedication and professionalism. He also spoke of Hutton’s generosity and how deeply he inspired those around him.
“Stories of his generosity would blow your mind. I was lucky to cross his path, and I am a better person for knowing him,” he concluded.
Hutton is survived by his wife, Bridget Hoffman, and their son, Wolfgang. Hoffman confirmed the news of his passing to The Hollywood Reporter, marking the loss of a cherished figure in the acting community.
