Kissimmee Commission votes to investigate ethics complaints involving city commissioner and mayor

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Kissimmee city commission voted to move forward with two complaints during their meeting Tuesday. Both complaints allege conflicts of interest against Mayor Jackie Espinosa and Commissioner Janette Martinez, city commission seat four, yet both complaints derive from separate situations.

According to the meeting agenda, the commission decided to submit these complaints to a judge, who could appoint a special prosecutor to investigate.

The sworn complaint against Mayor Jackie Espinosa, filed on March 17, claims conflict of interest, special treatment for self and associates, failure to disclose financial interest, among other allegations. It discusses Mayor Espinosa’s support of the Kissimmee Business Boost 2.0 program, a program designed to give businesses COVID American Rescue Plan Act funds if they could prove they suffered financially during the pandemic.
