Governor Spanberger proposes changes to worker protection bills, draws union backlash

RICHMOND, Va. — Abigail Spanberger is proposing amendments to several major worker protection bills, saying the changes are meant to ensure the laws work for both employees and employers, but the move is already facing pushback from labor unions.

In a statement from Richmond, Virginia, Spanberger said she supports the intent behind legislation on paid sick leave, paid family and medical leave, and collective bargaining, but wants to clarify how the policies would be implemented.

“These are policies that matter deeply to me and to working Virginians, and my amendments are about making sure that when these laws take effect, they work — for workers, for businesses, and for the localities and the Commonwealth that will implement them,” she said.
