NYPD implements ‘shelter-in’ at Tottenville High School, officials say

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Tottenville High School students and employees experienced a “shelter-in” on Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.

The city Department of Education did not specify what prompted the shelter-in at the Huguenot school on Luten Avenue, but shared a statement with the Advance/SILive.com, noting NYPD involvement.

“Earlier today,” said Isla Gething, Education spokesperson, “our NYPD and school partners worked together to implement a brief, precautionary shelter-in, prioritizing the safety of our students and staff. Once the shelter-in was lifted, dismissal and after-school programs resumed as normal. All students and staff are safe.”…
