After 4 months on leave, Monroe Public Schools athletic director is reinstated

Monroe Public Schools has reinstated Dr. Chet Hesson as the district’s athletic director as of Tuesday, according to a letter sent to district families on Monday by Superintendent Andrew Shaw.

Hesson had been on paid administrative leave for just over four months following the posting of a clip of an interview he did with Uncloseted Media, an LGBTQ+ news outlet, in which he expressed empathy for a student at Ann Arbor Skyline High School on the girls’ volleyball team who had been the subject of anti-transgender harassment and was the center of a Title IX complaint to the U.S. Department of Education from a parent of a student on the Monroe High School volleyball team.

Shaw’s letter declined to go into details on the decision, writing, “While we are pleased to have our leadership team back at full strength, please understand that we cannot discuss the specifics of this reinstatement in great detail, as it remains a personnel matter.”…
