Security bars become dangerous obstacle in Fresno house fire

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Fire crews in Fresno responded just before 1:30 a.m. to a house engulfed in flames, with heavy smoke pouring into the sky.

Inside, two people were trapped behind a wrought iron security door and barred windows, making escape nearly impossible.

According to Fresno Fire Department Battalion Chief Lawrence French, the individuals were located in a secured, enclosed patio surrounded by a wrought iron fence, a feature typically intended to protect the home. Instead, it became a barrier during a life-threatening situation…
