Ordinance could do away with Jackson Parks and Recreation Dept.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Jackson city officials could soon be doing away with the Parks and Recreation Department.

On Tuesday, the city introduced an ordinance to formally eliminate the department as part of a cost-savings measure.

“You voted in September and gave the administration the authority to combine departments as the administration deemed fit for cost-savings and efficiency purposes… Now, we need to formally adopt what we’ve been doing,” said Chief Administrative Officer Pieter Teeuwissen…
