Charleston’s new mobile license plate reader ramps up tickets, fines

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — Time is running out for folks who park their cars for a little too long or who have avoided paying ongoing ticket fines in the city of Charleston, as a new mobile license plate reader is catching folks faster than ever before.

The unmarked car looks similar to an undercover cop car with cameras on top.

But it really is the city’s parking patrol driving around snapping pictures of every car parked on the streets to catch violators and repeat ticket offenders in the act.

The city’s parking services director, Tyrone Lawrence, says they’ve been testing it out for the past five months…
