Lakeland weighs expanding downtown camera network as safety, privacy debate continues

LAKELAND, Fla. — More security cameras could soon be added across downtown Lakeland, as leaders consider expanding a surveillance system aimed at deterring crime and helping solve cases.

The Lakeland Downtown Development Authority is requesting funding to install five additional cameras, building on an existing network that currently covers about a 16-block area.
