Scaffolding collapse in Des Moines leads to rescue operation

DES MOINES, Iowa — Emergency responders were called to downtown Des Moines Wednesday after officials said scaffolding used by window washers collapsed.

It happened around 12:30 p.m. at 5th Street and Walnut Street. Sgt. Paul Parizek of the Des Moines Police Department said the scaffolding failed and one window washer fell about three floors. Crews with the Des Moines Fire Department rescued the other worker shortly after 1:30 p.m.

The person who fell suffered serious injuries, Sgt. Parizek said, and was transported to a Des Moines hospital by ambulance…
