Appleton clinic reaches $382,000 settlement for false Medicare claims, unnecessary treatments

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) – An Appleton medical clinic will pay over $382,000 to settle accusations from the U.S. Attorney’s Office that it submitted false claims to Medicare and offered medically unnecessary or unreasonable services to patients.

According to federal prosecutors, Apple Medical Clinic and Dr. Michael Johnson offered combined treatments to block pain involving electrical stimulation, vitamin injections and other services, such as nerve fiber density testing.

Johnson said the treatment was covered by and billable to Medicare and he marketed the device outside of what the FDA approved…
