Freeport museum names Ben Swords lead artist for mural project

The Freeport Art Museum has selected Ben Swords as the lead artist for a community mural project celebrating the United States’ 250th anniversary.

The mural, titled “United We Create,” will be installed in the museum’s public plaza. It aims to reflect shared histories, civic values and collective visions for the future, according to a community announcement.

Ben Swords is a community artist and educator

Swords, a lifelong Freeport resident, brings artistic expertise and deep community ties to the project, according to the announcement. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design from Webster University and a Master of Arts in teaching in secondary education visual arts from Liberty University. He currently serves as an educator in the Freeport School District, working closely with students to develop creative skills and confidence.
