Until about two years ago, a black-and-white food trailer called Taqueria Los Coralles was regularly set up in the parking lot of Carniceria El Guero, the Mexican market that used to operate at 2916 W. Central. (That business is now a meat market and grocery store called Colmex Meat Market.)
Now, the owners of that food truck are opening a new Mexican restaurant called Los Laureles — Cocina Economica. The restaurant will open Saturday at 3088 W. 13th St., which is the space in a strip center that most recently was occupied by a business called Carnitas Morelia. (Previous tenants of the space have included Byblos and Gaga’s Grub.)
Los Laureles is owned by brothers Adrian and Odiom Gutierrez, who until recently had been driving back and forth from Arkansas City, where they’d set up the food truck. Now, they’re selling the truck in favor of opening their own brick-and-mortar restaurant.
The brothers, who both work other full-time jobs, will open the restaurant seven days a week. During the week, it will serve only breakfast and lunch. On Saturdays and Sundays, they will also serve dinner. The hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays…
