Los Alamos, University of Michigan supercomputing site faces water service moratorium

YPSILANTI, MI — Local utility officials made a move that could slow construction of a Los Alamos National Laboratory and University of Michigan supercomputing site planned in Ypsilanti Township.

The Ypsilanti Community Utility Authority (YCUA) — which would provide all water to the Los Alamos site — has enacted a yearlong moratorium of delivering, committing, reserving or approving water and sewer services to data centers and AI computing facilities. That includes new service connections, capacity reservations, infrastructure expansion commitments, and preliminary or conditional approvals.
