Memphis-Shelby teachers get 2% raise in unanimous vote

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — While state takeover talks played out in Nashville yesterday, Memphis-Shelby County school leaders voted to approve a 2% raise for teachers during a special-called meeting.

Teachers are said to expect that bump in pay beginning August 14.

It takes effect July 1, but because most teachers don’t work during the summer months, the new increase will take effect in the fall.
