Rockport eighth grader Lillie Blacka and Aransas Pass seventh grader Sadie Schoppe were each announced as winners of the 2026 Regional Texas Navy Essay Contest presented by the TNS Zavala Squadron of the Texas Navy Association.
The winners were announced during a lunch meeting on April 18 in the Education Center at the Texas Maritime Museum in Rockport. The essay contest, which was opened by the Squadron this year, was for seventh and eighth grade public, private, charter, and home schooled students, and challenged participants to respond to the prompt: “Explain the Battle of Campache and its Historical Significance.”
