Eastern District of Texas highlights efforts during National Crime Victims Rights Week

PLANO, Texas — The Eastern District of Texas U.S. Attorney’s Office is observing National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, emphasizing efforts to combat gun violence and protect communities.

U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs, alongside the Department of Justice’s Office for Victims of Crime and the Executive Office for the United States Attorneys, highlighted the theme “Listen. Act. Advocate. Protect victims, serve communities,” according to a press release from the office. Combs stated, “Firearms are a staple in the world of drug trafficking, street gangs and cartels, and other criminal enterprises. We are committed to making our communities safer by keeping firearms out of the hands of violent offenders.”

Several recent cases underscore these efforts. On April 15, 2026, Israel Sanchez Arciga was sentenced to 27 years in federal prison for trafficking methamphetamine while in possession of a firearm. On April 7, 2026, Brandon Elliot Bennett received an 87-month sentence for robbing a firearms store in Plano.
