Thursday Weather | Trades return with dry conditions; Ashfall advisory in effect

HONOLULU (Island News) — Trade winds are coming back today as high pressure builds north of the islands.

These winds will be moderate and will stick around into the weekend. Because there’s high pressure in the upper atmosphere too, the air will stay pretty stable, so rain will be limited for the next few days.

By the end of the weekend, a bit more moisture will move in with the trade winds. That means a return to more typical Hawaii weather, with some showers mainly over windward and mountain areas, and a few afternoon clouds and showers on Kona sides.

Right now, Kīlauea is erupting, and an ashfall advisory is in effect through this morning. Areas on the south and southeast side of the Big Island, including Nā‘ālehu and Pāhala, could see light ashfall. The ash can irritate your eyes and lungs, so it’s best to stay indoors if possible, close windows, and wear a mask if you need to go outside…
